In a remarkable exhibition of inter-state collaboration and institutional knowledge exchange, a distinguished delegation from the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA), led by its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Major General Garba Yahaya Rimi (Rtd), embarked on a two-day operational working visit to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Headquarters, Oshodi, Lagos.
The study tour was primarily aimed at understudying the operational architecture, administrative framework, and strategic enforcement model of LASTMA. This agency has, over the years, earned national and continental acclaim for its efficiency, innovation, and institutional resilience in the sphere of urban traffic control and management.
In a statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the visiting delegates were warmly received by the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in the company of members of the agency’s top management cadre.
In his address, Bakare-Oki expressed profound appreciation for the visit, describing it as a resounding affirmation of LASTMA’s rising stature as a model traffic management institution within Nigeria and across the African continent.
He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Lagos State Government under the visionary leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, towards building a sustainable, technology-driven, and people-centric traffic management ecosystem, dedicated to ensuring seamless mobility, public order, and road safety across the metropolis.
According to him, LASTMA’s enduring success is anchored upon continuous capacity building, effective inter-agency synergy, robust community engagement, and the strategic deployment of intelligent traffic management technologies. He further reiterated that the agency’s operational ethos is grounded in professionalism, discipline, accountability, and service excellence.
Responding during the interactive session, Rimi lauded LASTMA’s visionary leadership, institutional depth, and operational dynamism, noting that the insights and lessons gleaned from the visit would greatly enhance KASSAROTA’s capacity to strengthen its regulatory efficiency and improve traffic administration in Katsina State.
He also expressed heartfelt appreciation for the warm hospitality and technical openness demonstrated by LASTMA’s management, while advocating for sustained collaboration, strategic partnerships, and technical exchange between both institutions in the collective pursuit of road safety, orderliness, and mobility efficiency nationwide.
The delegation visited LASTMA’s operational and administrative facilities, including the Digital Complaint Centre, Department of Planning, Research & Statistics and other traffic management equipment, including the TMS and Drone devices for real-time traffic surveillance activities.
The working visit equally features technical briefings, experience-sharing sessions, and strategic discussions on critical areas such as institutional development, traffic data analytics, public enlightenment frameworks, and enforcement methodologies, all aimed at deepening the delegates’ operational understanding of LASTMA’s transformative traffic management approach.
As an institutional beacon of excellence, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) continues to set operational benchmarks and policy standards that inspire replication and adaptation across other states in Nigeria and beyond, reaffirming Lagos State’s leading role in advancing modern traffic management systems in Africa.
Members of the Katsina State delegation included Abubakar Marwana (Public Relations Officer), Aminu Lawal Rabiu (State Secretary), and Dahiru Bagiwa (State Commandant), with other top LASTMA management team in attendance.
