Lawmaker mourns aide kidnapped, killed by ‘one chance’ criminals in Abuja

The lawmaker representing Toro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Ismail Dabo, has revealed that his legislative aide, Nimah Sulaiman, was kidnapped and murdered by criminals commonly known as ‘one chance’ in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

During a motion of urgent public importance moved at yesterday’s plenary session, Dabo recounted the tragic incident, stating that Sulaiman was abducted at gunpoint on Thursday, October 17, 2024, around 6:15 p.m. at Bannex Junction in Wuse 2 while on her way home to Jahi District.

Despite the payment of a ransom, her life was cruelly taken, and her body was discovered between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. at the Maitama/Minister’s Hill Bridge.

Dabo expressed concern over the increasing incidents of kidnappings and armed robbery in the nation’s capital, particularly the prevalence of ‘one chance’ operations.

He described the situation as alarming and noted that using unregistered and unpainted taxis in the FCT has exacerbated the problem, providing criminals with an easy means of carrying out their activities.

Following a minute of silence in honour of the deceased, the House of Representatives summoned the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to address the rising security challenges in the capital.

Additionally, the Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, were called to appear before the House Committees on FCT, Police Affairs, and National Security and Intelligence.

The House further directed its Committee on FCT to investigate the widespread use of unregistered and unpainted taxis in Abuja and recommend measures to regulate their operations to curb criminal activities.
