The Lagos Esteem Lions Club has refurbished the Science Laboratory of Ojodu Junior Grammar School, Ojodu, Lagos, as part of its humanitarian services to the society.

The gesture is part of the yearly official visitation of Lions Club International District 404B2 Nigeria Governor to Region 4.

Other projects of the club under the region are: Renovation of Babs Fafunwa Millennium Secondary School’s IT Laboratory and donation of computers and educational materials; visitation and renovation of Modupe Cole Memorial Home dining room; donation of white boards to Ojodu Junior Grammar school and donation of trophy during the school’s Inter house sport.

During the commissioning of the projects, the District Governor, Otunba Kayode Oshinuga, said the science laboratory renovation would enhance students learning. “The science lab was not up to standard, but today we have brought it to a level where learning and teaching can take place in a conducive environment whereby these students will be better in their output.”

He added that the falling standard in Nigeria’s education system is due to budget reduction.

“The government would not be able to do everything because our budget is shrinking by the day, forget about the trillions you hear in naira… Our own concern as a service organisation is to see where we can assist the government and put things right in our own little ways.”

Region 4 Chairperson, Lion Mathew Fapounda, said the region has positively impacted its community with various humanitarian services.

The President of Esteem Lions Club, Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Ajayi said her club has decided to give back to the community by refurbishing the Science Laboratory due to the state of the facility.

“When we visited the school, we met the principal, Mrs. Adeshola and we asked her the school’s needs, so we decided to renovate the school laboratory.”

The School Principal, Mrs. Oyenike Adeshola commended the Club for coming to the aid of the school, noting that the project meets the school needs.

“We are really grateful for the transformation, the lab is now wearing a new look. Some of the instructional materials have been replaced. I want to appreciate Lagos esteem. Lion Club for coming to our rescue and I assured you that everything you have done would be put to good use for the benefit of our learners.”
