Police in Ogun State are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man, Lanre Ogungbe, who was found dead in a hotel room in the Lafenwa area on October 10, 2024.
The hotel owner, Odeyemi Adeboye, reported the incident to the police after his staff discovered Ogungbe’s lifeless body on the bed. It is believed that Mr Ogungbe had checked into the hotel for a short rest.
Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola confirmed that officers attended the scene and found an empty bottle of an alcoholic drink called “Lakoko” and a bottle of insecticide, known locally as “Sniper”, near the body. There were no signs of violence.
Ogungbe’s body was taken to the General Hospital Ijaye, where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination will be conducted.
SP Odutola expressed concern about the rising number of suicides, linking it to an increase in mental health neglect. She urged families to provide support and stay closely connected.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding Ogungbe’s death are ongoing.
