The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old former driver, Ayomide Oluwadamilare, on suspicion of murdering his former employer, Kola Adun, and attempting to sell the deceased’s car in Lagos.
Police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued Tuesday.
According to her, Oluwadamilare was apprehended in the Ijede area of Ikorodu while trying to sell a Toyota Camry belonging to the late Adun. The dealer who was approached to buy the vehicle reportedly found the suspect’s account inconsistent and alerted the police.
The incident came to light after residents of River Valley Estate in the Ojodu Berger area of Ogun State reported a foul odour coming from the victim’s apartment.
Odutola said the police received a distress call around 1:00 p.m. on July 7, prompting officers from the Ojodu Abiodun Division to visit the scene.
“Officers proceeded to Ogunmoyero Street, River Valley Estate, and upon forcing entry into the premises, discovered the decomposing body of one Mr. Kola Adun on the first floor. The body bore visible stab wounds with bloodstains found at the scene,” the police statement read.
The previous day, a friend of the victim had attempted to pick him up for church but was unable to access the premises as the gate was locked from the outside. Efforts to reach Adun by phone failed, and his mobile phone was later switched off, raising further suspicion.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Oluwadamilare allegedly broke into Adun’s residence on Saturday, stabbed him to death, and fled with the vehicle bearing registration number AAA 193 GC.
Odutola said the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for autopsy. She added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
