Man arraigned over alleged N3m bus theft

A 38-year-old man, Austine Uchenna, on Monday, appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing a N3 million Nissan bus and breach of peace.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
The Prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offenses on Aug. 28, at 11:30 p.m., at No. 5, Taiwo Adeyinka St., Badagry, Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged that Uchenna stole one Nissan Bus with a Registration number KTU 816 XZ valued at N3,000,000, the property of one Sunday Okoduwa, the complainant.
“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by intimidating and annoying the complainant.
“The offences contravened Sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” Okuoimose said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A. J. Aina, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be a community leader with evidence of payment of two years of consecutive tax to the state government.
Aina subsequently adjourned the case until Oct. 14, for mention.
