Man arrested over viral video of assault on lady

The Rivers State Police Command has detained a suspect, Abi Baragon, a 46-year-old man, in connection with a viral video that showed a woman crying out for help after allegedly being assaulted by the suspect.

The incident, which occurred on June 20, 2025, has been the subject of intense investigation by operatives of the command.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said upon receipt of the distressing report, operatives attached to the Human Rights Department, State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port-Harcourt, swiftly swung into action, leveraging intelligence-led policing and technical support, saying the suspect was arrested on October 13, 2025, after a thorough investigation.

According to Iringe-Koko, the suspect’s motive for the assault allegedly stems from the victim’s rejection of his marriage overtures, prompted by her discovery that the suspect was already married with four children.

She said: “However, the suspect denied the allegation. During further interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to using bottles and stabbing the victim.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment in the hospital. An in-depth investigation has been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the efforts of the operatives in apprehending the suspect and appreciated the public’s support and cooperation in sharing credible information that led to the arrest of the suspect.

Adepoju reiterated his unwavering commitment to justice and warned perpetrators of crime that there is no hiding place for the wicked. The suspect will face prosecution upon conclusion of a discreet investigation.
