
A 41-year-old man, Waheed Fadipe, has been docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge, and belonging to an unlawful society.
The defendant is facing a six–count charge bothering on conspiracy, unlawful possession of gun and belonging to Eiye confraternity.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikayere told the court that the defendant and others now at large, on Aug. 4, 2024 at Aina Ajobo Street, Ogba, conspired to belong to an unlawful society.
Ikayere said that the defendant and others now at large unlawfully belonged to an unlawful and proscribed society known an Eiye confraternity.
She also said that the defendant and others now at large had in their possession a locally made fabricated pistol and a live catridge which they unlawfully displayed in a public place with intent to commit an offence.
She further said that on Nov. 12, 2024, somewhere at Ifako, Ogba in Lagos State, the defendant unlawfully assaulted one Monsurat Omowunmi by beating and inflicting bruises on her body.
The prosecutor said that the defendant also willfully and unlawfully destroyed cloths worth N600, 000 belonging to Omowunmi on that day.
She added that on Jan. 20, at Keke Senior High School, Ijaye Housing Estate, Agege, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by shouting and constituting nuisance inside the school premises
She said that the offences contravened sections 51, 168, (1)(d),173, 321(1)(c)(f) and 411 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
She said that the offences also contravened sections 2(3) (a,b,c,d) of the unlawful Societies and Cultism Laws of Lagos State, 2021.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A Owolabi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said one of the sureties must be a civil servant, and show evidence of tax payment and verification of address.
He adjourned the matter until March 3 for mention.
