A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of at least 15 children, most of whom were children travelling to celebrate Eid El Maulud, the Muslim festival marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The incident happened in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The accident occurred around 1 pm on Sunday, involving a J5 bus carrying 63 children.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Kaduna State, Corps Commander Kabiru Nadabo, the driver lost control of the bus due to speeding.
The bus then collided with an oncoming articulated vehicle, resulting in the fatal crash.
Nadabo reported that 15 children died instantly, while 48 others sustained various injuries.
The injured were transported to the Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka by FRSC, Police, and Kaduna State Traffic Laws Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA) officials.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital, also in Saminaka.
