A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu state, Humphrey Nwodo said on Wednesday that Governor Peter Mbah has laid enduring legacies that could transform the economy of the state.
He stated that the quantum of projects by the governor when completed would improve the state’s economic viability and place it above its equals.
Nwodo stated that the ambitious projects which cut across the various strata are a testament of the governor’s commitment to transform the state for the betterment of the inhabitants.
He identified the projects as the ongoing of construction smart school buildings in the 17 local government areas, modern bus terminals, security cameras with Artificial Intelligence devices, the International Conference Centre, the 300-bed multispecialty International Hospital, the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC); dualisation of 43.7 Penoks-Abakpa Nike-Opi-Nsukka road, the 44km Amaeke-Oghe-Iwollo-Umulokpa road, the 78.85 km multiple roads in Nkanu east and West LGAs, ongoing reticulation of potable water and reconstruction and equipment of hospitals across the state among others.
Nwodo, a lawyer, told The Guardian in Enugu that the projects are capital intensive and as such required the support of the residents to ensure their completion in record time.
“The fact is that what Governor Mbah has done and has continued to do in less than two years is unprecedented. I am yet to see a governor who is so determined to do things differently. He has been delivering on projects and has not for once derailed in the payment of salaries to workers and other empowerment programmes for the state. This is real governance and our people are better for it,” he stated.
Nwodo explained that these projects when completed would not only create jobs but restore the lost integrity of the state.
He stated that Enugu lost its reckoning when several establishments that provided jobs for the people as well as accounted for its revenue went moribund.
“But we are delighted that Governor Mbah has taken the bull by the horns to insist that some of these moribund industries will come back to life. You can see that Hotel Presidential which was abandoned for several years is bouncing back to life. He has taken up the Nigergas, the Ememe Flour Mill as well as the Aluminum factory. Tell me how the economy, why the state cannot run on its own should these establishments be restored. I am sincerely praying for him to succeed as doing so would change a lot of negative notions about the state,” Nwodo stressed.
