Ovie Kehinde Iyomaterie, the young boy whose sudden disappearance sparked concern, has been found alive and well 27 days after he went missing in Lagos.

Iyomaterie, who disappeared on May 13, 2025, along Orchid Road in Lekki, was located in Bariga on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

His discovery came less than 24 hours after The Guardian reported his disappearance.

On Friday, June 6, 2025, his mother, Adesola Iyomaterie, issued a heartfelt plea for help in locating her son. She revealed in a video that her son had never gone a day without calling and that she had reported the case to the police and searched prisons and hospitals for him.

Following the plea, the Lagos State Police Command intensified efforts to locate the boy.

Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Olohundare, directed the activation of investigative teams, including special tactical squads, and ordered all police divisions and area commands within Lagos and neighbouring states to join the search. He also tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, with conducting a thorough investigation.

In an update, the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the boy’s recovery. “Detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba found him alive and well in Bariga on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

He has been handed over to his mother,” Hundeyin stated.
