A man has been lynched by a mob in Rivers State, according to police authorities.

The man was reportedly attacked while attempting to commit a crime, and his body was later discarded on the road, where it was struck by a fast-moving vehicle, causing severe damage.

Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday. The unidentified man’s body was found along the Olu Obasanjo road in Port Harcourt.

Iringe-Koko explained that when the police were alerted, their operatives quickly responded and discovered that the deceased was a notorious suspect known for criminal activities in the area.

“Preliminary findings suggest that the individual may have been lynched by an angry mob while attempting to commit a crime, and his remains were subsequently dumped on the road, where it was struck by a fast-moving vehicle,” the statement read.

On November 9, 2024, at around 10:30 a.m., police received a report of an unidentified body near Ayama Junction/Ikokwu Spare Parts Market along the road. Investigations revealed that the deceased was known for serial burglaries and theft in Ikokwu and surrounding areas.

“Fortunately, all vital organs were found intact. The corpse has been evacuated, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the statement continued.

Iringe-Koko called on the public to cooperate with the police by providing information that could aid in the ongoing investigation. The Police Command also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring law and order in the community and pursuing justice.
