NDLEA intercepts air force personnel transporting weapons to Kogi

A member of the Nigerian Air Force, ACM Anas Muhammed Fakai, has been detained by troops of the 12 Brigade at Kabba Junction, Lokoja, while transporting firearms to Abuja.

The arrest occurred at approximately 10:22 pm on Tuesday and involved cooperation with operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Fakai, who is assigned to the 107 AIR Maritime Group on Airport Road, Benin, Edo State, was found in possession of two pump-action guns and a Browning pistol.

During interrogation, he stated that the weapons were intended for delivery to Constable Mohammed Auwal Haliru, attached to the Police Headquarters in Abuja, and an orderly to a Commissioner of Police.

The detainee further claimed that the firearms had been handed to him by an Inspector Paul, who is posted to the Government House in Benin, Edo State.

Investigations revealed that Fakai attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, between 2015 and 2019.

The suspect, along with the seized weapons, remains in custody pending further directives, according to a Special Situation Report from the military.

Authorities have not indicated whether other personnel involved remain under investigation or have been detained.

Cannabis intercepted

Recall that earlier this week, Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, intercepted a large consignment of cannabis in a vehicle in transit from Ekiti to Kogi State.

The discovery, according to the troops, is part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action and disrupt the flow of illicit substances that frequently contribute to the rise of banditry and other violent crimes across Kogi State.

In a statement by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army in Lokoja, yesterday, the troops said they had intercepted a major courier conveying a significant consignment of Cannabis Sativa from Ekiti State to Obajana, Kogi State.

The Guardian reports that Obajana village, where the Dangote Cement factory is located, is a known haven for banditry and other forms of criminality.

The statement by the army confirmed that the operation occurred on 24 November 2025, when troops deployed at Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU.
