New Rotary Club president announces four projects worth N16.5m in Abia

The Rotary Club of Umudike Central Chapter in Abia State on Saturday installed Chigozie Favour Iwegbulam as its 22nd president, with the new leader announcing plans to execute four community projects valued at N16.5 million. Iwegbulam, a staff member of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, succeeded Peace Offor.

In her inaugural address, she outlined the projects as impact-driven initiatives aimed at restoring dignity to young learners, promoting health, empowering rural livelihoods, and advancing environmental sustainability.

The first project, estimated at N5 million, involves renovating a six-room toilet facility at Umuariaga Umudike Primary School. According to Iwegbulam, the project seeks not only to repair infrastructure but to restore “the dignity, health, and confidence” of pupils.

The second project, tagged ‘Bringing Healing to the Doorsteps of the Forgotten,’ will be a community health outreach worth N4 million. It is designed to deliver healthcare services to vulnerable groups in areas where access remains limited.

The third initiative, ‘Empowering Hands, Restoring Livelihoods,’ is an economic empowerment programme estimated at N6 million. It will provide vocational training, starter packs, and business support for rural men and women.

The fourth project, ‘Greening Our Future, One Action at a Time,’ budgeted at N1.5 million, will focus on tree planting, street cleaning, and sensitisation on environmental care.

The installation ceremony, held at Rhapha Hotel, Umuahia, was attended by members, family, and supporters, and featured colourful attire, entertainment, and donations. Guests dressed in the day’s designated colours of green, white, and orange, following the request of the new president.

In his goodwill message, Prof Vincent Asor, Chairman of the Rotary District Subcommittee on Vocational Service and the 2025/2026 Installation Committee, charged Iwegbulam to lead with compassion and apply her wealth of experience.

Immediate past president, Peace Offor, urged her successor to sustain open communication, collaboration, and passion in driving the club’s activities.
