It was an emotional reunion on Monday as Adeola, the 41-year-old daughter of actress Jumoke George, rejoined her family in Lagos after four years of separation.
The reunion followed an alarm raised by George during an interview on the “Talk with B” show, hosted by Abiola Bayo, where she expressed concerns about her daughter’s whereabouts.
The show’s host subsequently sought assistance from the Federal Government through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). The commission’s Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, worked swiftly, contacting the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner, Ugo Chime, to arrange Adeola’s return.
At the NIDCOM office in Lagos, Dabiri-Erewa welcomed Adeola and used the occasion to caution others against falling victim to human trafficking.
She urged Nigerians to avoid deceptive job offers, particularly in Libya and Mali, which often result in exploitation. “Adeola’s story is a cautionary tale. We must remain vigilant against these dangers,” she said.
Adeola recounted her ordeal, explaining that she had been lured abroad with the promise of a pharmacy job by someone she trusted, only to find herself sold to a “madam”.
She resisted the situation and, overwhelmed by the shame of her unfulfilled dreams, cut off contact with her family.
The actress’s daughter had been living with her grandmother in Ibadan before informing her family of plans to travel to Lagos. Her prolonged absence left her family worried, but Adeola expressed relief and happiness at being reunited.
Abiola Bayo praised the Federal Government for its swift intervention, expressing gratitude for its role in reuniting Adeola with her family.
