Commandant Odumosu

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, FCT Command, said it arrested 112 suspects in 2025 for the alleged vandalisation of critical national assets and infrastructure across the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Olusola Odumosu, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja.

Odumosu said the suspects were arrested for offences including the theft of road crash barriers, vandalism of telecommunication masts, and the theft of telecoms gadgets and fibre optic cables, as well as streetlights and the destruction of billboards.

Providing a breakdown, he said nine suspects were arrested in January, three in February, two in March and one in April, 2025.

“In May, four persons were arrested in relation to the theft of armoured cables and telecommunication mast accessories. In June, four suspects were arrested. In July, six people were arrested, while some suspects involved in the vandalism of streetlights are still at large.

“In August, 27 suspects were arrested. September recorded the highest number of arrests with 58 suspects. October recorded no arrests. In November, two suspects were arrested, while in December, those who vandalised 10 recovered crash barriers were still at large,” he said.

The commandant said 15 of the cases were ongoing, four were under investigation, while convictions had been secured in five cases.

He added that areas most affected by vandalism during the year under review included adjoining offices, network providers’ facilities, billboards, streetlights, the National Hospital area, and crash barriers within the FCT metropolis.

Odumosu lamented the spate of vandalism in the territory, noting that the Federal Government had invested heavily in infrastructure development.

He said the corps remained resolute in flushing out vandals of critical assets and infrastructure while protecting public installations, and urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible intelligence to curb the destruction and theft of public property.
