NUJ mourns veteran journalist Walter Ukaegbu

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council has mourned the death of its former Internal Auditor, Mr Walter Ukaegbu, aged 67, after a protracted illness.
Ukaegbu covered business and maritime/transport/aviation beats for several years in various national newspapers and worked for The Sun Newspapers before his death on August 29, 2024. He hailed from Amokwe Item in Bende Local Council of Abia State.

In a tribute to the deceased, the NUJ said Ukaegbu was a loving father, doting comrade, inspiring professional, and worthy example to his community.

The tribute, signed by Secretary of FCT Council of NUJ OchiakaUgwu and sent to Ukaegbu’s family, said that while the death “leaves pain and sorrow, we, however, urge you to take solace in the fact that Walter Ukaegbu lived well as a devoted husband, caring and loving father, doting comrade, inspiring professional, and worthy example to his community.”

According to a funeral programme released by his family, a Service of Songs in Ukaegbu’s memory will be held on November 8, 2024, at Christ Methodist Cathedral, Nyanya, in Abuja. His remains will be interred at his country home in Amokai in Amokwe Item, Abia State, on November 15, 2024.
The late Ukaegbu is survived by his wife, DrIfeyinwaUkaegbu, children and extended family.
