Ogun State Government has shut African Refractory and Allied Products Limited (ARAP) following allegations that a former employee contracted an infectious disease in Ogijo.

ARAP is a production company that crushes quartz stones into fine powder for furnace linings at steel companies.

The former employee, Bartholomew Aniemeka, in a video, had alleged that he contracted contagious diseases called silicosis while working with the company before leaving in June 2025.

However, based on the information, the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, paid a visit to the company with officials from his ministry and Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency and shut the company pending the outcome of investigation over the alleged disease.

Oresanya assured the public that the state government is on top of the situation and would foot the bill for the medical care of Aniemeka, who is in stable condition at the TopMed Hospital, Ogijo.

He assured the sister of the victim, who also spoke about the health of her brother in the viral video, of proper medical care with a series of tests set to be conducted on him to ascertain the condition of his health.

The commissioner, however, said that the state government is on top of the situation and would do everything possible to find a lasting solution to the matter.
