Ogun police detain man over viral domestic violence video in Ilese-Ijebu

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Fatai Quadri, following the circulation of a video showing him allegedly assaulting his wife, Rukayat, in Ilese-Ijebu.

CSP Omolola Odutola, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday. She explained that the incident, which reportedly took place on Monday, showed the suspect striking his wife with his fists, causing visible injuries.

“Operatives of Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu Ode, promptly responded and arrested the suspect,” Odutola said. She noted that preliminary investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a marital dispute linked to allegations of infidelity.

According to Odutola, Quadri allegedly transferred ownership of a 10-room en-suite apartment, jointly constructed with his wife, to another woman, which reportedly triggered the violent assault.

“The victim is currently receiving medical attention, and the suspect remains in custody. He will face charges upon the conclusion of investigations,” she added.

The Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the command’s stance against domestic violence. “Our position is clear: domestic violence will not be tolerated. Offenders will face the full weight of the law,” he said.

Ogunlowo also urged the public, particularly victims of domestic abuse, to report incidents promptly. “Silence only empowers perpetrators, but timely reporting ensures protection and justice,” he stressed.

The arrest has drawn attention to the importance of community vigilance and the role of law enforcement in curbing domestic violence, highlighting the challenges of addressing such incidents in a timely manner.
