Residents of Oke-Afa Community Development Committee (CDC), Magboro, Obafemi-Owode Local Council of Ogun State, have lamented the suffering they face due to the deplorable state of roads in the area.

They also called on the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, to keep his promise to them over one year ago.

In a statement released by the Oke-Afa Area Community Development Committee and signed by its chairman and secretary, Shobowale Sunday and Popoola Kolawole, respectively, the CDC said people living in Oke-Afa, Ilupeju, Olowofela, Kajola, and Magboro in Obafemi-Owode Local Council of the state have suffered loss of property, vehicular damage, and dehumanising conditions over the last 15 years as a result of the deplorable condition of the road.

They stressed that despite the 100,000 residents and over 40 Community Development Associations (CDAs) that comprise Oke-Afa CDC, the area only has a single road linking it to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

They described this as a nightmare, especially during the rainy season. Children are reportedly unable to go to school for fear of getting drowned, while adults are compelled to wade through the flood or use canoes.

Also, the community recalled Governor Abiodun’s promise to extend the government’s impact to the area, saying this still needed to be fulfilled.

It noted: “Apart from the general need to extend government’s presence and infrastructural development to the community, it is pertinent to state that during the last electioneering campaign, the governor, by a letter dated March 7, 2023, promised to address the plight of the community by constructing the road if his re-election bid was supported by the community and he was re-elected for a second term.

This promise was wholly embraced, and the community fulfilled its part of the social contract.”
