Houses, churches and a police station destroyed by Boko Haram in Garkida, Adamawa State… at the weekend.

Suspected secessionist gunmen on Tuesday morning attacked and bombed the Oba Police Divisional Headquarters in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State.

The Guardian gathered that the incident also claimed the life of a police Corporal, while several others sustained varying degrees of injury.

The gunmen also attacked the Oba Civic Centre.

The attack is the second in the last four days on government establishments in the state.

Last Friday, August 30, some gunmen said to be in large numbers, attacked the Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, who invaded the LGA secretariat in the early hours, set buildings, including a town hall meant for traditional rulers and some administrative facilities at the premises ablaze.

Ogbaru local government secretariat had suffered a similar attack on June 15, 2024.

The reason for the attacks is unknown. Sources however stated that it coincides with a declaration by a faction of the secessionist’s group who called for a month-long hostility against government establishments in the South-East, starting from last month.

The Anambra State Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday morning.

Ikenga, however, said, “A joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and other agencies is currently conducting a joint operation in Oba and its environs.”

He said the suspected armed secessionist group shot sporadically and threw petrol bombs, causing fires in some offices and the civic centre.

“The Commissioner of Police  Nnaghe Obono Itam, while condemning the act, described the invasion of Security facilities and hostility towards security agents as an attack on the soul of the nation and vows to bring those behind the unholy act to book,” Ikenga said.
