One dead, seven injured in Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway crash

One person has died in an auto crash after the driver of a car lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a moving truck on the Sagamu/Ikorodu Expressway in Ogun State.

Seven people also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident.
The crash involved a Space Wagon with registration number UMA 473 FR and a DONGFENG truck with registration number T-32603LA.

Spokesperson of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta at the weekend.
Akinbiyi said that 10 persons (four male and six female) were involved in the crash, seven people were injured, while one died on the spot.

He attributed the crash to excessive speeding on the part of the driver of the Space Wagon, who lost control of the vehicle while in motion and collided with a moving truck from the front.

The TRACE Public Relations Officer said that his men and operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were on the ground for the rescue mission.

He said that the leadership of the Road Union Association was contacted through the driver’s phone number, and they arranged for the evacuation of the corpse.

Akinbiyi added that the accident car and truck had been towed to the nearest station.
