One dead, three injured as vehicle tyre bursts on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway

One person has died in a lone auto crash after the tyre of a vehicle bursted at the Awowo axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway corridor of Ogun State.

Three persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident.
Eyewitness account said that tyre burst was the cause of the crash, which made the driver lose control of the vehicle.

Involved in the crash that occurred on Sunday evening was a White Mazda bus with Registration Number: LND 917 YF.

Spokesperson of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday.
Akinbiyi said that twenty passengers were aboard, while three (male) sustained injuries, and one (female) died on the spot.

He said that while in motion, the tyre of the vehicle burst and the driver of the Mazda bus lost control of the vehicle, which fell on its side, resulting in the death of one.

The TRACE Public Relations Officer said that the injured victims had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the corpse had been deposited at Ijaye Hospital’s morgue.

He said that the accidented vehicle had been successfully towed off the road.
