One dead, three injured in Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway auto crash

A lone accident on Sunday evening claimed the life of one person and left three others injured along the Awowo axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash involved a white Mazda bus with registration number LND 917 YF, which eyewitnesses said suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control.

Spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday. He said the bus had 20 passengers on board at the time of the accident.

According to him, three male adults sustained injuries, while a female adult died on the spot. “While in motion, the tyre of the vehicle burst, causing the driver of the Mazda bus to lose control, resulting in the death of one person,” he said.

Akinbiyi added that the injured victims had been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the deceased’s body was deposited at the Ijaye Hospital morgue. He further confirmed that the vehicle had been towed away from the scene to ease traffic.
