Osun PDP, APC trade words over gunmen invasion of Egbedi community

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday traded words over the reported invasion of Egbedi community in Egbedore Local Government Area last Thursday by gun-wielding men, who shot five individuals.

While the PDP chided the opposition for attempting to desecrate the traditional institution by dragging it into the incident, the APC contended that the development was proof that the Osun State government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke is lawless and promotes unbridled violence.

In a statement by the Osun State chairman of the PDP, Sunday Bisi, the ruling party took a swipe at the APC for desecrating the highly revered traditional institution with its unreasonable attempt to drag it into its desperate power grab mission.

Bisi, who noted that Yoruba culture and traditions were firmly against tricksters, which the APC represents, lambasted the opposition “for trying to associate brazen theft with its effort to snatch power through the backdoor,” calling on it to immediately halt its reign of impunity and call off its illegal occupation of the local government secretariats.

Bisi stated, “The verdict of the Supreme Court in the Rivers councils contention has put to rest the Osun APC’s shenanigans,” pointing out that the apex court ruling clearly affirmed that local council elections not conducted in line with Sections 28 and 150 of the Electoral Act, 2022, are in breach of the law and should be voided.

Responding, the APC, in a statement by its director of media and information, Mr. Kola Olabisi, condemned the invasion of Egbedi community by some political thugs allegedly led by one of Adeleke’s political aides, Oriade Kazeem.

According to Olabisi, the helpless Oba Muideen Azeez, the Elegbedi of Egbedi, who appealed to the Federal Government for the protection of the lives of his subjects and their property, disclosed that the hoodlums attacked Chief Ajiroba Yisa Abayomi and Prince Abioye, while six of his other subjects were receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

“The pertinent question on the lips of every right-thinking member of society has been: how did Osun State slide into such an abyss of a culture of impunity, where the cheapest thing in the state under the inglorious administration of Governor Adeleke is extra-judicial killing?

“The shameful incident in Egbedi community has laid credence to our ceaseless petitions, both orally and in writing, that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a net of killers whose slightly over two years of administration in the state has shed the blood of many innocent souls in the pursuit of selfish and rabid collective and personal ambition,” he posited.

Recall that some gunmen had on Thursday attacked Egbedi community, where about five individuals were allegedly shot over a land dispute involving some people from Oloba in Ede, a neighboring town
