Seven people have been confirmed dead, while more than a dozen others sustained injuries in a motor accident involving a Sienna bus and a Toyota car along the Damaturu–Kano highway in Yobe State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at Warsalla village in Potiskum Local Council and was attributed to overspeeding.
Confirming the development yesterday in Damaturu, the Information Officer of the Yobe State Emergency Ambulance Services (YEAS), Ibrahim Waziri, said: “The accident at Warsalla claimed the lives of seven persons, including two children from the Sienna bus,” adding that more than a dozen passengers, including a driver, sustained injuries to their heads and limbs.
He noted that the prompt response of the YEAS rescue team saved the lives of surviving passengers and one of the drivers.
On the condition of the victims, Waziri explained that the seven bodies and the injured persons, including two children, had been evacuated from the scene of the crash to the Yobe State Teaching Hospital for deposition and medical treatment .
An eyewitness from the Warsalla community, Malam Isa Huseini, told The Guardian that both vehicles were on top speed before one veered off its lane and rammed into the other.
