Oyo begins levying vehicles carrying foodstuffs

The Oyo State Government has said all vehicles carrying foodstuffs out of the state will be levied.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, in a statement said the decisions were taken at the last meeting of the Oyo State Executive Council.
The Commissioner said the state deploys a huge sum of funds to help farmers and to increase harvests.
According to Ojelade, billions of Naira are spent on fertilisers, seedlings, subsidies on tractorization, and feeds for livestock, among others.
“While the State Government will continue to encourage agrarian inter-state transactions, it will not shy away from ensuring that due diligence is followed,” he said
“Agriculture posts will be mounted at borders to ensure compliance with the new directive.”
According to Ojelade, the Council also approved the expansion to the scope of work at the ongoing upgrade of Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan.
These include the expansion of aviation facilities such as the installation of Led Gantry, a facility that provides information on sundry aviation transactions such as flight schedules, advertisements, and weather forecasts, among others.
In continuation of its efforts to improve inner roads in the state, the commissioner said the council also approved the asphaltic rehabilitation of the Renaissance High School Road, off Agugu – Ode Aje Road, the Basorun Oluwo Nla Road and Road 25 on Basorun Housing Estate.
The Commissioner recalled that before now, 34km of inner roads out of the 84km earmarked within the Ibadan metropolis have already been completed.
He said that inner roads in other parts of the state are also being addressed.
The Commissioner added that the council also approved the procurement of vehicles to assist the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in its duties.
The Executive Council meeting was conducted virtually.
