A yet-to-be-identified pet (polyethylene terephthalate) bottle picker has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree near Toyota Bus Stop opposite the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) Station, along Mile 2-Oshodi expressway in Lagos.
Spare parts traders discovered the deceased’s dangling remains hung on a tree at about 7:00 a.m. on their way to the Ladipo Auto Spare Parts International Market, implying that the act must have been committed before daybreak.
When The Guardian visited the scene, a few bottles and bags were around him, but he had no sign of injuries.
The deceased, believed in his late 30s, had tribal marks on both sides of his cheeks.
When the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was contacted through 112 at about 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., it promised to remove the body.
But the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the police needed to access the scene first.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, promised to speak to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area so that the body would be removed.
