Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has called on leaders to deliver public services with sincerity and the fear of God, stressing that governance is fundamentally about improving people’s livelihoods.

“Leaders must prioritise the welfare of their people by addressing their basic needs and enhancing their well-being,” Obi said during a condolence visit to Jigawa State.

Obi, who is also a former governor of Anambra State, explained that his visit was to express sympathy to the people and government of Jigawa following the tragic loss of over 180 lives to a tanker explosion last week.

“The life of every Nigerian matters, and I am deeply saddened by the loss of over 180 lives. It was important for me to come to Jigawa to personally extend my condolences to the government and people of the state,” he stated.

In response, Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi Danmodi, expressed gratitude for Obi’s visit, describing it as a meaningful gesture that reflects national unity and shared concern.

“Your visit symbolises the empathy of Nigerians in sharing our grief,” Governor Namadi said.

He further described the recent petroleum tanker explosion in Majiya as the most devastating incident in the state’s history, noting that it claimed over 180 lives and left many others injured.

Those injured are currently receiving medical treatment in five different facilities across the country.
