…As Police confirm arrest of his domestic staff in Anambra
The Delta State chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has been thrown into mourning following the brutal killing of its General Secretary, Bishop Clarence Chinedu James, in a development that has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of religious leaders in the country.
Bishop James, until his death, was the General Overseer of Endtime Reconciliation Ministries in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press of PFN Delta State, Pastor Malcolm Oteri, the fellowship described the killing as shocking and heartbreaking, noting that the late cleric was a committed servant of God whose death had left the Pentecostal community devastated.
The Chairman of PFN in Delta State, Bishop Abos Willie, also expressed deep sadness over the incident, saying the murder had plunged the entire fellowship into grief.
Bishop Willie called on the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to order a comprehensive investigation into the killing and ensure that all those connected to the crime are arrested and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command said it has arrested a domestic staff member allegedly linked to the gruesome murder of the cleric.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended on May 13, 2026, while allegedly attempting to dispose of the victim’s Toyota Prado Jeep in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Ikenga, in a statement made available to journalists, disclosed that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, carried out a swift intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of the suspect alongside another individual alleged to have agreed to purchase the stolen vehicle.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the suspect served as the late bishop’s driver and domestic staff and allegedly conspired with other yet-to-be-identified accomplices to murder the cleric before fleeing with his vehicle to Anambra State for sale.
The police spokesperson said operatives acted on credible intelligence to track and intercept the suspects in Nkpor, successfully recovering the stolen Prado Jeep and taking the suspects into custody for further interrogation.
The command added that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang and unravel the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, advised residents to exercise caution in the recruitment and supervision of domestic workers, drivers and household employees.
He urged members of the public to properly verify and profile individuals employed in their homes and establishments, while remaining alert to suspicious conduct and activities.
