Police arraign man for stealing property worth N850,000

A 24-year-old man,Yusuf Aliu, who allegedly entered a residence and stole property worth N850,000, on Thursday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful entry and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 18, at Itoga-Zannu area of Badagry, Lagos State.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant unlawfully entered through the ceiling into the house of one Mr Babatunde Setonji, and stole property valued at N850,000.
“The defendant was arrested by the vigilante and handed over to the police for prosecution.
“The offences contravene Sections 308 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. N.A. Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 14 for mention.
