Police arraign three for allegedly belonging to secret society

Three persons- Waris Lawal Lanre Toheeb, and Ridwan Muritala- on Tuesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, charged with belonging to an unlawful secret society.

Lawal, 28, Toheeb, 27 and Muritala, 27, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and belonging to unlawful society.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges

The Prosecutor, ASP. Musbau Lawal, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Jan. 25 at 11.00 p.m. at Eruwa in Oyo State.

Lawal said that the defendants unlawfully belonged to a secret society called ‘Eiye confraternity.’

He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 64(a) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr. Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until March 19 for mention.
