The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a farmer and the abduction of two women in Ilero town, Kajola Local Council.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, disclosed this during a visit to the affected community. Adenola assured residents that the two women, abducted by suspected kidnappers on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, would soon regain their freedom.
The Commissioner of Police, accompanied by senior officers, stated that his visit aimed to consult with key stakeholders and mediate with Ilero youths to dissuade them from staging a protest that could potentially be hijacked by criminals.
During the meeting, the Elero of Ilero land, Oba Wasiu Oyedele, commended the police and other security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace. He condemned the frequent attacks on farmers and the destruction of crops by suspected herders, noting that the indigenes were hospitable to all tribes and encouraged foreigners in the town to embrace peaceful coexistence.
Representatives from Iwajowa and Kajola Local Councils urged the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the two kidnapped women, who were abducted while working at an agro-products shop in Ilero.
The Seriki Fulani of the zone, Muhamud Yusuf, expressed the readiness of herders and other foreigners in the town to collaborate with the police and local vigilante groups to rid the community of criminals.
Yusuf noted that many of the attacks were perpetrated by rogue herders and other criminals who do not reside in the host communities.
