The Rivers State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough concerning a viral video circulating on social media, depicting an armed robbery incident at Choba area of Port Harcourt on October 15, 2025.
The incident, which occurred at about 8:00 p.m. the previous day, involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.
The Command’ Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement on Thursday, said through intelligence-led policing and technical support, operatives of the command successfully apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young M., a 42-year-old male, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.
According to her, during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.
She said: “The suspect is currently in police custody, and an in-depth investigation has been launched to apprehend the other fleeing suspects, recover the stolen vehicle, and retrieve the firearms used in the commission of the crime. The police are working tirelessly to ensure that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has commended the operatives involved in the operation for their diligence and swift response, which led to the arrest of the suspect.
He has also expressed gratitude to the public for their support and cooperation in sharing credible information that facilitated the arrest.
The CP warned that the state will not provide a hiding place for criminals, emphasising the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
He further stated that the police are determined to maintain law and order and to protect the citizens of Rivers State from harm.
