Police operatives in Delta State have arrested an ex-convict, Precious Okoro, just five days after his release from prison, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Asaba.
The spokesperson for the state command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest on Monday, describing it as part of the command’s renewed efforts to curb crime.
Edafe said all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and formation heads had been directed to fully implement the proactive policing strategy across the state.
According to him, the arrest occurred on Sunday, August 11, 2025, at about 3:30 p.m., when a patrol team from the Eagle-Net Special Squad responded to a report of a stolen motorcycle.
Working alongside the Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NHSS), the team apprehended Okoro, 27, of ULO Street, Asaba, and another suspect, 18-year-old Buhari Deyegu of Ibusa Road, Asaba. The stolen motorcycle was recovered.
Further investigation revealed that Okoro had been released on August 6, 2025, from the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility, where he served a two-year sentence for a similar motorcycle theft.
A search at his residence uncovered additional suspected stolen items, including two generators and an iron measuring scale. The police said the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
The Delta State Command reiterated its warning to criminals, stressing that the state is unsafe for illegal activities under its current security operations.
