Operatives of the Taraba State Police Command have arrested four suspects in connection with murder and car theft cases in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, James Lashen Saminu, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Friday in Jalingo, revealing that the operations also resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Wukari Division apprehended Dauda Usman, 45, and Japhet Shekarau, 30, for allegedly murdering two commercial motorcycle operators.
The victims, identified as Idris Papa from Kano State and Abdulkadir Ahmad from Bauchi State, were murdered on 27th June and 7th May 2025, respectively. The suspects reportedly stole the victims’ motorcycles after the attacks.
Saminu stated that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crimes and named one Habibu Dahiru, of Gindin Doruwa, Wukari, as the recipient of the stolen motorcycles. Dahiru has also been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
In a separate operation on 8th July, the command announced the recovery of a Toyota Camry stolen at gunpoint from Ugwa Solomon Ikechukwu in Port Harcourt on 5th July.
Acting on intelligence provided by Emmanuel Asso, serving in Anambra State, officers tracked the vehicle to the Wukari-Mutum Biyu axis and intercepted it along the Wukari-Bantaje Road. The driver, Umar Jabo, 30, from Jalingo, was arrested in connection with the incident.
Commending the operatives for their swift actions, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Simon Bretet, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to aid in the fight against crime across Taraba.
