Police arrest, prosecute armed robbers terrorising KWASU students

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested suspected armed robbers targeting students of the state university in Malete and its environs.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this on Friday at a press conference highlighting his command’s achievements in curbing crime and criminality in the state.

According to the police chief, the arrest was made through a joint security patrol during which one Adamu Nuhu was arrested in the Malete area with different digital gadgets and accessories suspected to have been forcefully taken from students.

He added that the suspect admitted to participating in a series of coordinated robberies on three student accommodations in the area.

“The suspect admitted that he and two other accomplices, who are currently at large, carried out the attack, wielding cutlasses and using force to rob approximately 15 students of their phones and other valuables.

“Following intelligence gathered during investigation, another two suspects — Dauda Amuda and Dare Alabi — were also arrested in connection with the crime.

“Their role as collaborators or receivers of the stolen property is being further scrutinised,” he said.

He added that the arrested individuals have been formally charged to court and remanded, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the two fleeing suspects.

CP Ojo warned criminals to steer clear of the state, as the police command would not compromise its strategic and intelligence-led operation to rid Kwara of criminal syndicates.
