The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in a series of abductions in Lafia and its environs.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Monday in Lafia, the state capital.
According to the statement, the suspects were linked to the abduction of one Miss Favour Francis of Ombi Anzaku in Lafia Local Government Area.
“At about 8:30 am, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) Chairman of Ambana Village, Lafia, arrested and handed over two suspects, Dahiru Aliyu and Sayyadi Abubakar, to the police in connection with the kidnapping incident, which occurred on October 10 around 10:00 a.m. but was not immediately reported to the police,” Nansel said.
“Upon receipt of the suspects, police operatives launched an investigation which led to the arrest of another suspect, Abdulmumini Isah of Angwan Nungu, Lafia.
“The suspect later led operatives to the location where a locally made rifle, five live cartridges, and the knife used in stabbing the victim were concealed.”
Nansel added that during interrogation, two of the suspects confessed to the crime, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauri Mohammed, commended the VGN and the police operatives for their prompt action and collaboration, which led to the arrests.
He urged residents to continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in tackling crime across the state.
