Police arrest two brothers for cultism, cybercrime in Anambra

Two brothers, Chinedu Anagor, 25, and Rapuluchukwu Anagor, 23, have been arrested by vigilante officials in Ifite village, Oko, Orumba North Local Council of Anambra State, for alleged involvement in cultism and cybercrime.

The suspects, who hail from Ogidi, Anambra State, were apprehended with an English Beretta pistol and eight rounds of ammunition during an operation.

During interrogation, the brothers confessed to being members of the Beggars Confraternity and admitted their mother was aware of their cybercrime activities, popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.” They revealed that their illicit activities had yielded over N11 million last year, part of which was given to their mother to purchase land for building in their community.

The suspects disclosed that they purchased the pistol from “cult boys” in Awka for N300,000 last year, claiming they had only used it once to snatch a phone at Munachim Lodge, Oko. They said the stolen phone was sold to a dealer at a plaza in Awka. Despite the allegations, the brothers denied being armed robbers.

Chinedu, the eldest of six children, stated that he joined his younger brother in Oko in April this year. According to Rapuluchukwu, a graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, he returned to the area in January and rented accommodation at the White House, where he operated his business.

“We are not armed robbers but Yahoo boys. Our mother knows we are into Yahoo. I bought the gun from cult boys for N300,000,” Rapuluchukwu admitted, adding that part of their earnings was invested in land and failed travel arrangements.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest and the recovery of the pistol. Ikenga also stated that the suspects mentioned a notorious cultist and gunrunner known as “Kiss Me” as their armourer, prompting the police to launch a manhunt for him and the criminal group.
