Police operatives in Taraba State have arrested two suspects and recovered six locally made firearms in connection with recent violent attacks in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, the Command confirmed.
In a statement on Friday, ASP James Leshen, the Command’s spokesperson, said the arrests followed a coordinated operation on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, around noon.
The operation, led by CSP Ayuba Yohanna, involved the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the 40 PMF, and Karim Lamido Division officers.
The team raided a Fulani settlement in Wuro Guga near Jen, suspected as a base for herders involved in deadly attacks on the Munga Dosso and Bandawa communities, which claimed about ten lives in three separate incidents.
“The herders fled into a nearby forest upon sighting the operatives,” the statement said. “A thorough search recovered one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made revolver gun, four single-barrel guns, and nine cartridges.”
Additionally, two suspects were arrested while attempting to set fire to huts abandoned by displaced Fulani residents.
Police investigations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects and restore calm.
Commissioner of Police Emmanuel S. Bretet commended the swift action of the operatives, warning that those fueling violence will face the full force of the law.
“We will not tolerate lawlessness. The safety and security of every resident in Taraba State remain our top priority,” CP Bretet stated.
