Police confirm arrest of Imo activist ‘Nonsonkwa’ over alleged cyberstalking
The Imo State Police Command yesterday confirmed the arrest of popular radio presenter Chinonso Uba, also known as ‘Nonsonkwa’.
Uba was reportedly apprehended on Sunday on Port Harcourt Road, opposite Teachers House, Owerri.
This marks the second time Uba has been arrested in a similar manner. Several months ago, security operatives intercepted him while driving his Highlander SUV near Assumpta Catholic Cathedral, Owerri, after hosting a radio programme at Ozisa FM.
In a statement issued by police spokesperson Henry Okoye, it was revealed that Uba’s arrest stemmed from a petition regarding viral videos in which he was allegedly involved in “cyberstalking, defamation, misinformation, and inciting civil unrest”.
The videos were linked to the burning of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre in Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Council, on September 30, 2024.
The statement read: “ChinonsoUba was arrested on October 20, 2024, following a petition from a concerned citizen regarding viral videos involving cyberstalking, defamation, misinformation, and inflammatory statements related to the burning of the NOUN study centre.”
He is currently in custody and will face court once investigations are concluded.”
The police reiterated their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring all perpetrators of the NOUN incident face justice.
