Police investigate death of hunter found with bullet wounds in Ogun forest
The Ogun State Police Command has announced that it has commenced an investigation into the death of a hunter, identified as Femi, who was found dead with bullet wounds in a forest in the Ijebu-Igbo area of the state.
Femi’s disappearance was reported to the village head, who organised a search party with other local hunters to find him.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, the deceased had reportedly gone hunting with an individual known as Taoreed on Friday but failed to return home.
Odutola explained that Femi’s delay in returning home caused concern for his wife, who then reported the matter to the village head. The village head subsequently organised a search party to comb the forest, where they found Femi’s body with bullet wounds.
She said, “On 26/10/2024, one Grace James, a resident of Ofemodoko village near Ijebu-Igbo, reported to the station that on 25/10/2024 at about 1700 hours, her husband, Femi, now deceased, went hunting with a man known as Taoreed, also called Kokoro, but did not return to their village. During the search, Femi’s body was discovered in the forest, showing bullet wounds on his back, with his gun lying on the ground beside him.”
The police revealed that efforts to locate Taoreed, who had gone hunting with Femi, have been unsuccessful. He, his wife, and their children have reportedly fled the village.
The PPRO confirmed the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police also said Femi’s body had been taken to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for an autopsy.
