
The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a preliminary investigation into the suspected murder of 34-year-old Segun Adebite at a construction site along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
According to the command, the Sagamu Division received a report that a violent altercation involving machetes had taken place at the site, resulting in Adebite’s death.
Police say that around 12:20 p.m. on October 28, 2024, Mr Adedeji Adegbola, a Lagos resident, reported the incident to the station after being contacted by Hassan, a local security guard assigned to the site.
Adegbola informed police that Hassan had alerted him to an ongoing violent dispute involving Adebite and unidentified individuals. Upon arrival at the scene, detectives found Adebite’s body with multiple machete wounds, lying in a pool of blood.
In a statement, Ogun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Omolola Odutola confirmed a blood-stained machete was recovered as evidence at the scene. The deceased’s body has been moved to Livewell Morgue for an autopsy.
Police added Hassan, the security guard who initially reported the altercation, fled the scene for his safety and remains uncontactable at this time.
“Preliminary investigation is underway, and updates will be provided as they become available,” the Ogun State Police Command stated.
