A coordinated security operation by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, the military, and local vigilantes has led to the neutralisation of three notorious armed robbers in Filin-Dabo Village, Dei-Dei outskirts of Abuja.
The operation, which took place at midnight, also resulted in the recovery of firearms and other incriminating items.
The swift response followed a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dei-Dei ‘A’ Division at 11:50 PM on February 12, 2025, alerting authorities to a violent robbery in progress.
The DPO immediately contacted the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which swiftly mobilized security operatives from the 102 Battalion, Guards Brigade, alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilante groups.
On arrival, the security team encountered a six-man gang attempting to flee into the surrounding bushes.
The criminals, in a desperate bid to escape, launched an ambush on the operatives. However, the joint security forces responded with superior firepower, engaging the suspects in a fierce gun battle.
Three of the suspects sustained fatal injuries and were rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel. The remaining three, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, are currently receiving medical attention under security surveillance.
The operation led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and incriminating materials, including: One AK-47 rifle (with defaced breach number), three loaded magazines, 19 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, two locally fabricated pistols, two knives, one taser.
Others include one mobile phone, assorted charms, suspected to be used for fortification, and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, commended the joint security forces for their professionalism and rapid response, emphasizing that the successful operation sends a strong warning to criminals operating within the territory.
He praised the residents of Filin-Dabo village for their cooperation and timely intelligence, which played a key role in the swift neutralization of the robbers.
“The fight against crime requires collective effort. We urge residents to remain vigilant and emulate the proactive stance of the Filin-Dabo community by promptly reporting suspicious activities,” the Commissioner stated.
