Police nab fake soldier, fraudsters, rescue abducted pregnant woman
The FCT Police Command has apprehended several suspects, including a fake soldier, his accomplice, and members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate, known as “One-Chance,” operating in Abuja.
Among those arrested is Moses Daniel, held for alleged fraud, and Emmanuel Linus, who was caught impersonating a Nigerian Army officer by wearing full military camouflage to commit crimes.
According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, Linus was arrested on November 30 in full Nigerian Army attire and presented a fake military ID card listing December 20, 2024, as his date of birth, raising immediate suspicions.
“Further intelligence gathered revealed that Linus is allegedly part of a criminal syndicate that defrauds unsuspecting victims by purchasing goods and services with fake bank alerts,” said Mr. Disu.
The police also clamped down on a “One-Chance” robbery gang, foiling multiple operations and rescuing several victims, including a pregnant woman, on November 28.
Mr. Disu expressed gratitude to FCT residents for their continued support during intensified security operations, which aim to tackle the menace of robbery and car theft in Abuja.
He disclosed that the FCT Command’s Special Tactical Team has impounded 296 vehicles involved in violations such as tinted windows, incomplete plate numbers, and defaced number plates.
“Operations have successfully foiled five ‘One-Chance’ robbery attempts, rescuing three victims,” the CP said.
In a related development, police rescued a pregnant woman, Doris Gabriel, who was abducted by the gang while returning home from the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi.
On November 28, a distress call alerted police to an ongoing robbery along Idu Industrial Area Road. Officers from Karimo Division responded swiftly, arresting one suspect, Ikechukwu Ngerem, and rescuing Gabriel.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that Doris, a heavily pregnant woman, had been abducted by a gang posing as commercial vehicle operators. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” Mr. Disu added.
