Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested suspected kidnappers and cultists in coordinated operations across the state, seizing weapons in the process.
One of the kidnapping suspects, Collins Chiadiji, also known as Smooth”, aged 42, has been on the police watchlist for multiple kidnappings in Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku and Asaba. He was apprehended at a criminal hideout along Ibusa road.
A search of his residence in Ewulu community, Aniocha South Local Council, led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle and 40 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
A suspected accomplice, Andrew Ezechie, from the same community was found in possession of two pump-action guns and two live cartridges. The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition in separate sting operations from the suspects.
The operations, carried out on July 27, 2025, about 1.20am, were conducted by the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, in collaboration with the X-Squad and Buffalo Patrol teams.
The suspects, believed to be part of a syndicate responsible for abductions in Ogwashi-Uku, Issele-Uku and environs, are in custody, with investigations ongoing to apprehend other gang members.
In a a separate operation on July 30, 2025, about 6.30am, operatives of the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) raided a suspected cultists’ hideout near Big Gate, Campus III, in Abraka.
Three suspects were arrested with a fabricated Beretta pistol, four live ammunition, a black cap with the Eiye inscription, and a battle axe. The suspects, identified as Benjamin Okwufulueze, 21, Augustine Ifeanyi, 22, and Iruma Japheth, 27, confessed to being members of the Eiye Confraternity and are undergoing further interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their swift actions and reiterated the command’s dedication to combating all forms of crime.
He urged parents and guardians to discourage their children from involvement in cultism and criminal activities, while advising residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies promptly.
