The Lagos State Police Command has said it arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing phones from accident victims in Ikeja.

In a post on its X page on Thursday, the command stated that the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, a few metres away from the accident scene as they attempted to flee with the stolen phones.

The post identified the suspects as Isaiah Adegbenro, 38; Edet Johnson, 30; and Efe Sowemimo, 28.

According to the police, the accident occurred when the victims, travelling in a red 2010 Toyota Camry, lost control and crashed into a road divider on Governor Road, Alausa, Ikeja. Instead of assisting the driver and passengers from the badly damaged vehicle, the suspects were seen rummaging through the victims’ pockets and the car.

Among the stolen items were an iPhone 15 valued at N1,300,000 and an iPhone 12.

The police reported that the suspects have made significant confessions and will face court charges as directed by Shola Jejeloye, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) commander.
