The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 12 criminal suspects involved in various crimes.
The command also recovered firearms from the suspects, and rescued some kidnapping victims.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina revealed this yesterday while parading the suspects at the Police Headquarters in Jos.
The suspects were arrested for kidnapping, conspiracy, and armed robbery.
Adesina identified the kidnapping suspect as 20-year-old Auwal Mohammed from Mazah community in Jos North Local Council.
He announced the recovery of items such as cutlass, loaves of bread, cigarettes, custard, torchlight, sachets of glucose, tea and a Tecno Camon phone belonging to one of the victims.
The suspect confessed to being part of the kidnapping syndicate operating along the borders of Plateau and Bauchi State.
Adesina disclosed that the Command has also taken steps to address the incident where a police officer was mistakenly killed during protests in Bassa Local Council in August of this year.
The natives were protesting against the killing of their people, mistakenly believing that the police officer present was involved. However, the police officer was there to control the situation.
The police commissioner further revealed that Alhaji Hussaini Haruna of Kwande District in Qua’an Pan council reported that unknown individuals conspired to break into his house and steal four of his cows worth around N5 million.
“Working with the neighbouring state police command, the suspects were arrested by officers from Nasarawa State Command while transporting the cows to Nasarawa State but were transferred back to Plateau State for investigation.
“A locally fabricated pistol and live ammunition were also recovered by the police last month,” he said.
Adesina noted that these “Ember months”are known for rise in crime and urged all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Heads of other Tactical/Patrol Teams throughout the state to conduct “Ember Month Surveillance” operations to ensure safety.
