Operatives of the Anti-Robbery Team of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges from their hideout.

The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Adeyinka Onakomaya and 48-year-old Olayiwola Kehinde, were arrested at their hideouts in the Babaode area, along the Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the suspects were tracked following an armed robbery incident reported in April 2026, during which a red Toyota vehicle was recovered.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects and their gang allegedly masterminded the April robbery and were involved in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatchings across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan areas of the state.

Babaseyi said a thorough search of the suspects’ hideout following their arrest led to the recovery of the three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.

He added that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in various armed robbery operations in the region and were cooperating with detectives by providing useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.

The spokesperson said efforts had been intensified to identify, track and arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate for possible prosecution.

The commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its tenacity, operational efficiency and commitment to follow-up investigations.

Ojajuni said the recovery of the firearms and the arrest of key members of the syndicate underscored the command’s determination to pursue criminal investigations to a logical conclusion.

He assured residents that the command remained committed to dismantling armed robbery networks and making the state increasingly difficult for criminal elements to operate.

The CP also urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police by reporting suspicious persons, movements and activities in their communities.
