Security outfits comprising the Federal Hunters, Vigilante, and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have killed four suspected kidnappers, as a response to the recent protests against insecurity and kidnapping in Abraka.

The bodies of the alleged kidnappers were seen at the Abraka divisional police station on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, two days after security forces disrupted a peaceful protest at the Police Station Junction in Abraka.

On Monday, June 2, 2025, Men of the Nigerian Army clashed with protesters in Abraka, Delta State, who were demonstrating against insecurity and kidnapping. The incident resulted in one injury, and a protester’s vehicle, Comr Godstime Ukuanovwe, was allegedly vandalised and seized.

Students from Delta State University joined local residents in protesting rampant kidnappings in Abraka, calling on the police to take decisive action to address the crisis.

Recall that the youths, numbering over 200, have been on the streets of the university community for over four days in a bid to draw the attention of the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to serial cases of kidnapping in the community.

In a peaceful protest on Wednesday in Police Station Junction in Abraka, the concerned youths expressed frustration over the prolonged and unchecked insecurity that has plagued the university community for over a decade.

They decried the withdrawal of children from the university for fear of their safety, adding that landlords have also abandoned their homes, becoming tenants in safer regions.

According to the protesting youths, many residents have fled Abraka, leaving behind their investments and ancestral homes, lamenting that student enrollment is rapidly declining as school dropouts increase.

Also, farming activities have drastically reduced due to the fear of attacks in farmlands.
